6th Grade Beginning Orchestra Timeline
The first week of school, all 6th grade students will go through a rotation that gives them an introduction to their choices in band, orchestra and chorus. The normal middle school schedule includes two periods per day in the connections department, which includes band, orchestra, chorus, P.E., art, business, drama, and technology. It is during these two daily periods that this introductory rotation will take place. Thursday/Friday/Monday, August 1, 2, and 5. Rotation/Recruitment begins! For these three days, each student will be cycling through the band, orchestra and chorus classes as well as the other connection classes. On the day your student visits the orchestra room, they will have a chance to try out each orchestra instrument up close, touch it, hear it, play it, and learn more about what is involved with the actual playing of the instrument. They will also be given the official orchestra registration form and orchestra program information forms on this day. Wednesday, August 7: All band, orchestra and chorus registration forms and music doubler application forms are due today! We will make sure we follow up with all missing forms, so no student is left out! Thursday-Friday, August 8-9: Student’s will finalize their instrument selection based upon not only size and sound, but long-term success. After instrument selection, students will come home with information about getting an instrument and the required supplies. The three day induction will also include the instrument sizing process, large school instrument assignments (cello/basses), locker/slot assignments, handbook/syllabus orientation (forms needed to be signed and returned), and review of supply list. Please use this website to sign handbook/syllabus forms online!! Monday, August 12: All 6th grader violin and violists will bring their instruments and materials to school! At this point, orchestra is really underway! Let the music begin!! |
